Cervical Cancer Information Center
Each year in the United States, more than 11,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer. To reduce this number, researchers continue to explore new approaches to cervical cancer prevention. One very important advance in this area is the development of vaccines against two high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV); widespread use of these vaccines could prevent an estimated 70% of all cases of cervical cancer.
Progress is also being made in the early detection and treatment of cervical cancer. Newer approaches to screening include HPV testing and liquid-based Pap testing. Advances in surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy have also made important contributions to improved cervical cancer survival, and it is estimated that there are more than 249,000 cervical cancer survivors in the U.S. today.
Understanding cervical cancer treatment options, the role of different doctors specializing in the treatment of cervical cancer, and how and when to access new and innovative cervical cancer treatment options available through clinical trials is essential in order to achieve the best outcome from cervical cancer treatment.
The Cancer Consultants Cervical Cancer Information Center has been designed to help patients understand options for cervical cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment, while providing ongoing information, inspiration, support, and community to individuals affected by a diagnosis of cervical cancer.
