Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization is at best an inexact science that is evolving virtually daily. There is no one answer, and even the most seasoned “experts’ disagree on what are the most effective and appropriate techniques. At CancerConsultants.com, we believe that prospective patients seek oncology care in their own communities. Your Internet presence provides an excellent vehicle for patient education; however, it is not your primary marketing vehicle. Most cancer treatment decisions are based upon referring physician recommendations, recommendations of friends or relatives, and insurance compatibilities. For these reasons, we advocate focusing any extra marketing initiatives on promoting your specific cancer center and its website within your local community – rather than spending thousands of dollars on search engine optimization for a global impact that has relatively little relevance to a local resident faced with a cancer diagnosis.

Your Website is Optimized

The team at CancerConsultants has developed your website using techniques to enhance search engine methodologies. Much of our optimization goes on “behind the scenes” during the navigation development, headings, tags, and key word designations. Though viewers never see these extra steps, the search “spiders” or “bots” from the major search engines do – and it makes a difference in your placement.

Submitting Your Site to Search Engines
Your site will appear on search engines without submitting listing requests to the major search engines. Please note that it can take several months after a site is launched o detect movement in search engine rankings.

If you prefer to submit your site yourself, here are a few suggestions:

One way to have your site listed to to participate in the Open Directory Project which provides data to AOL Search , DirectHit , HotBot , Google , Lycos , Netscape Search , etc. Click here to learn more. If your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on preceding partner sites.

Yahoo is fee based and MSN bases its placement on a payment for each visitor that “clicks through” from its search engine to your web site. We do not advise that you purchase a software program that “automatically” sends registrations to 100s of search engines. Keep in mind that Google, MSN, AOL and Yahoo account for over 85% of all US Internet searches.

You may, of course, pay to place “ads” that appear to be listings in the search engines. We do not feel this is a prudent allocation of your marketing dollars.
